The scheme looks to develop a vacant site in the small valley village of Walsden, Yorkshire. The proposals look to create a modern/traditional care village with a 32 bed care home and 34 extra care apartments offering a range of living care facilities for those looking for independent living with the added security of communal facilities and on site services.
The design of the buildings is based around two independent blocks constructed from traditional local stone. The scale and massing is set back from the main road and the main bulk of the building is broken down with double height glazed entrance links. The form of the proposals has been directly influenced by the linear nature of the site with Wolsden Water (river) and the railway line forming the sites natural boundaries. The main access has been retained dissecting the site in two and in effect zoning the site into the spaces for the two blocks. The scheme aims to assist individuals in the transition from independent living to life in a care home.
